Tips and best practices after purchasing PLR
When you purchase one of our PLR products, it is best to redesign it with your branding colors, fonts, and other assets. Below are some of our tips to help you with this.
changing the cover
As per our PLR terms, you can use our PLR as-is but you are required to change the cover.
This can be done easily by:
- adding or removing a graphical image
- changing design colors
- and changing font and font styles
Now if someone else purchases this PLR product, you don’t run the risk of having the same product.
purchasing assets and fonts
Purchasing assets and fonts from sites like Creative Market, Creative Fabrica, Adobe Stock Photos, Design Bundles, and more are great places to get reasonably priced assets.
And if you sign up with them, most will email you weekly freebies. Just remember to always check the type of license you are given with your freebie.
Many times it is for personal use only and others will give you a commercial license. Always check!
If you have Canva pro, you’ll have more graphics to choose from than with their free account. Despite this, you can still find lots of great options for your PLR.
Now, if you find a photo or graphic in Canva, you can simply hover over it to see if it is free. Below I searched for daisies in Canva‘s photo library. When I hovered over the daisy on the right, a PRO crown appeared on the photo letting me know that it is only free for Canva Pro users.
To look for free photos or assets, use the filter buttons on the top right of the search bar. Then click the free checkbox.
When you apply the filter, Canva will show you free assets. Hovering over the daisies on the left, you see that it says free.
Now, if you have found a free asset you like, you still have to be mindful of its license terms. To find this out, simply click the three dots in the upper right corner of the asset.
Next, hover over the information icon [the letter “i” in a circle] and it will give you a small tidbit of information about its license.
And if you click on that icon, Canva will send you a list of what you can and cannot do with this particular asset.
We recommend you click that icon just to be sure your product aligns with their terms.
using Adobe indesign
We love using Indesign but it does come with a steep learning curve. Once you learn to use it though, you’ll love it.
Here are some things you can do in Indesign to save time.
If you want to create a border for all your pages in your document, select a ‘master page’ from the Pages Panel.
Click Place from the File menu, upload the digital paper, then click the upper left corner on your page.
Then send this layer to the back by clicking the design, go to Object>Arrange>Send to the Back. [If this is the only layer on this page then you can skip this part.]
Next, select the rectangle tool and place that on the same page.
Make sure your rectangle is filled in, preferably, in white.
Next size the rectangle to cover parts of the assets you do not want as part of your border.
When you are done, go back to the document pages and you will see that all your pages have borders. Note that all the pages in the panel have an ‘A’ on top. This means that Master Page A has been applied to that particular page.
If you decide that you do not want a border page on some of your pages, simply choose that page from the page panel. And right-click it.
Select Apply Master to Pages and select None, then OK.
The border has disappeared from this page and the A icon is also missing from the page in the page panel.
Now if you want a different border on some of your pages, simply create another master page and follow the above steps.
Then chose the pages you want to change and apply them to the new master page.
